Our B2B and B2C eCommerce solutions integrate various accounting/ERP packages such as SAP, SYSPRO and Sage, connecting seamlessly with ecommerce channels such as WooCommerce, Shopify and Magento, as well as marketplaces including Takealot and Amazon. Additionally, we offer our own B2B trade store, enabling clients to synchronise inventory and orders effectively. The Role We’re seeking a hands‑on, all‑round CTO to own the end‑to‑end technical function for our small but growing SaaS company. You’ll lead a team of ~10 developers, set the technical strategy, and be accountable for delivery quality, security, scalability, and reliability across our stack: AWS, PHP with Amazon RDS (MySQL) and Amazon OpenSearch, and a TypeScript front end. Key responsibilities Define and drive technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap aligned to business goals. Lead and grow the engineering team: hiring, coaching, performance management, and culture. Oversee product management practices: prioritization, discovery, delivery, and stakeholder alignment. Own software delivery: SDLC, Agile rituals, estimation, release management, and incident response. Ensure robust architecture: scalability, resilience, cost optimization, observability, and security. Establish QA discipline: test strategy, automation, CI/CD, and defect prevention. Lead DevOps: cloud infrastructure (AWS), IaC, monitoring/alerting, performance, and SLAs. Partner cross‑functionally (sales, customer success, finance) to translate needs into product outcomes. Manage vendor relationships, budgets, and technology risk/compliance. Skills & experience 8+ years in software engineering with 3+ years in senior leadership (Head of Eng/CTO or equivalent). Proven ownership of a production platform and teams of 8–20 engineers. Strong architectural judgment (scalability, eventing, APIs, data modeling) and cloud cost control. Track record establishing QA, CI/CD, and DevOps practices; comfort with IaC and observability. Product thinking: customer discovery, prioritization, metrics/OKRs, and outcome‑focused delivery. Excellent people leadership, hiring, and communication; calm under pressure, decisive in incidents. Security and compliance mindset; familiar with data privacy best practices (e.g., GDPR, POPI). Nice to have Experience with AWS services, PHP, MySQL (Amazon RDS), search technologies (e.g., OpenSearch), and modern TypeScript front ends.
