Overview The Accounting Manager role leads the accounting function for South Africa, overseeing day-to-day operations, month-end close, and financial reporting in line with US GAAP. The position plays a key leadership role in driving consistency, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the finance function, while partnering closely with business leaders to support performance and growth. The role is based in the Cape Town office and operates a hybrid working model with three days working from home per week. Responsibilities Lead and manage the month-end close process across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting outputs Prepare and present monthly reporting packs to South African leadership Analyse revenue and expenses, identifying and explaining material variances Partner with business leaders to provide financial insights, support decision‑making, and improve performance Lead audit processes (local and global) and ensure timely completion Ensure compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, and all relevant regulatory requirements Oversee core finance functions, including Accounts Payable, Treasury, Payroll, and Tax Manage treasury activities, including cash flow forecasting and payment approvals Maintain and strengthen internal controls, proactively identifying and mitigating risks Drive continuous process improvements across accounting and finance operations Oversee finance systems (e.g. NetSuite, Salesforce, FloQast, Vena) to ensure data integrity and efficiency Lead, develop, and support a high‑performing accounting team Support M&A activity, including due diligence and post‑acquisition integration Qualifications Essential: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance Essential: Chartered Accountant qualification (or equivalent) Essential: 7+ years’ accounting experience, including leadership responsibility Essential: Strong knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS Essential: Experience managing month‑end close and financial reporting in a multi‑entity environment Essential: Proven ability to lead and develop teams Essential: Advanced Excel and accounting systems proficiency Essential: Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills Essential: Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment Desirable: Experience in a software or subscription‑based business Desirable: Background in a Private Equity‑backed organisation Desirable: Experience working with US‑based operations or global finance teams Desirable: Exposure to M&A, including due diligence and post‑acquisition integration Desirable: Experience driving process improvement and scaling finance functions Benefits Competitive personal pension plan and medical aid scheme 25 days of annual leave plus public holidays, and a bank of 16 hours Flex Time Off Parental leave benefit designed to support new parents Tuition reimbursement schemes and professional development support Hybrid working model with flexibility to work from anywhere in the world for two weeks per year Regular office breakfasts, quarterly lunches, and virtual social events Equal Opportunity Statement MRI is proud to be an inclusive employer.
