Title: SEO Specialist (Mid) Reports to: HOD SEO Level and band: Mid Location: Johannesburg Role Overview A SEO Specialist (Mid) is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve client websites’ and organic indexable platforms’ search engine rankings and overall online visibility. They conduct keyword research, optimise on-page elements (like meta tags, content, and internal linking), and ensure the website is technically sound for search engines to crawl and index. This role also involves analysing performance data, identifying trends, and making data-driven decisions to enhance SEO efforts. They work closely with content creators, web developers, and marketing teams to align SEO strategies with broader business goals. In addition, a SEO Specialist (Mid) monitors algorithm updates, industry trends, and competitors’ activities to adjust strategies accordingly. They may also be involved in managing off-page SEO efforts, such as link-building campaigns and outreach to relevant online communities. Reporting and presenting insights on SEO performance to stakeholders is another key aspect of the role, ensuring that the company’s digital presence remains competitive and continues to grow organically. Key Responsibilities Technical SEO and Optimisation Analyse and review websites for search engine optimisation. Develop content that incorporates relevant keywords and phrases to increase website traffic. Conduct testing on design, layout, and advertising techniques to optimise results. Possess in-depth knowledge of keyword research, SEO copywriting, and search engine behaviours. Review server-side code (HTML, Java, and other as required). Offer advisory to the development department on technical rollout and strategy. Attend relevant onsite client training events and meetings. Team Leadership and Management Prepare implementation plans and lead client onboarding. Audit client properties using multiple toolsets. Troubleshoot auditing and onboarding processes. Work closely with clients and account managers to identify needs and provide solutions. Participate in technical meetings with developers and negotiate solutions. Execute work plans for clients (e.g., link-building). Client Relations and Reporting Prepare and deliver effective client presentations to stakeholders at all levels. Deliver weekly, monthly, and quarterly status and results presentations. Evaluate content quality and manage external content resources. Identify new opportunities within existing accounts. Work closely with clients to identify needs and consult on best practices. Strategic Planning and Analysis Develop content to increase website traffic. Conduct testing to optimise website performance. Possess in-depth knowledge of keyword research, SEO copywriting, and search engine behaviours. Identify new opportunities within existing accounts. Qualifications And Experience Degree, Specialist Certifications or Diplomas: In Marketing, Digital Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field. SEO Certifications: While not mandatory, certifications like Google Search Ads Certification, Google Analytics Individual Qualification (GAIQ), or HubSpot SEO Certification can demonstrate expertise. Minimum of 2+ years of experience in SEO, with a proven track record of successful SEO campaigns. Deep understanding of SEO principles, including on-page, off-page, and technical optimisation. Proficiency in SEO tools and platforms (e.g., Google Search Console, Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs). Strong analytical skills to interpret data and make data-driven decisions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members and clients. Skills And Requirements Technical SEO: Understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and website architecture. Content Marketing: Ability to create and optimise high-quality content. Link Building: Experience in developing and executing link-building strategies. SEO Tools: Proficiency in using various SEO tools for keyword research, competitor analysis, and technical audits.
