Teams meet two to four times per year in person to align on strategy and execution. The company is founder led, profitable and growing. Role We are hiring an Engineering Manager for the MAAS team. Our mission with MAAS ("Metal as a Service") is to provide the best solution for building and running private bare-metal infrastructure, delivering a cloud-style on-demand API in front of physical server provisioning, network configuration, and storage. We seek engineering managers with experience in high-quality software development and high-performance team leadership who have deep familiarity with Linux on physical servers, Linux storage and data center networking capabilities. Responsibilities Lead a distributed team of engineers across time zones (teams organized by Americas, EMEA, etc.). Foster talent development through coaching, mentoring, feedback and career planning. Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders. Advocate for and advance modern software development practices. Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural reviews. Collaborate with broader Canonical teams, the open source community and partners. Travel to internal and external global events for 4 to 6 weeks per year. What we are looking for in you Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field. Strong academic record from high school and university. Proven experience delivering software using Python, Go, or similar languages. Experience with Linux system administration (Debian or Ubuntu preferred). Familiarity with modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers and Kubernetes. Technical aptitude for understanding complex distributed systems. Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills. Experience with agile software development methodologies. Ability to mentor, develop, and support team members; results-driven with a personal drive to meet commitments. Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long. Nice-to-have skills TypeScript with modern web frameworks (React, Angular, Svelte or Vue). Data center infrastructure management and design.
