Our client is a growing fixed wireless internet service provider with an active national footprint, serving towns, communities, and surrounding areas across South Africa. They operate licensed spectrum microwave and wireless broadband infrastructure, and are in an active phase of network expansion. This is a permanent, senior leadership role based in Johannesburg, with national scope covering both Gauteng and Cape Town operations. The role The Infrastructure Projects Manager is an operational and technical leadership position responsible for the end-to-end management of the infrastructure function. You will lead and manage Infrastructure Leads and Technicians nationally, serving as the central point of operational control for all infrastructure activities — from site deployment and quality assurance through to preventative maintenance, RF planning, and cross-departmental coordination. The role reports into the Head of Operations with a dotted line to the CEO. This is not a desk role. You will be expected to be field-credible, technically authoritative, and operationally present — setting standards, developing your team, and driving the infrastructure function as the business scales. What you'll be doing Leading the national infrastructure department, including direct management of Infrastructure Leads in Gauteng and Cape Town and all field technicians reporting into them. You will act as hiring manager for all infrastructure recruits, own performance management and disciplinary processes, and create a culture of accountability, workmanship pride, and safety across the team. On the technical side, you will apply RF engineering expertise to support network planning, sector alignment, signal optimisation, and interference mitigation. You will provide input on site design, antenna placement, tower specifications, and equipment selection, and will troubleshoot complex issues across fibre, microwave, GPON, IP networking, and wireless broadband. You will design and implement preventative maintenance schedules covering towers, antennas, cabling, and power systems including solar and battery infrastructure. Beyond technical delivery, you will coordinate across Project Management, NOC/RF, Warehouse and Procurement, and Finance — managing landlord relationships, site compliance, tool and vehicle oversight, and regular performance reporting to the CEO and senior leadership. What we're looking for 5 to 10+ years in telecoms infrastructure covering deployment, maintenance, and operations Minimum 3 to 5 years in a leadership or management role overseeing technical teams and field operations or contractors Demonstrated experience managing infrastructure across multiple sites or regions National N Diploma or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Telecommunications Technical requirements RF and wireless: RF planning, site surveys, propagation analysis, sector alignment, antenna tilting, azimuth configuration, signal optimisation, interference mitigation, link budget analysis, frequency planning, antenna selection, PtP and PtMP wireless link design, spectrum analysis, tower specifications, and line-of-sight path profiling. Networking and infrastructure: MikroTik (RouterOS, Winbox), Ubiquiti (UISP, UNMS, UniFi), microwave link planning and maintenance, fibre optics (GPON, splicing, FTTH), IP networking (routing, switching, VLANs, DHCP, DNS), solar and off-grid power systems, and tower rigging and structural compliance. Advantageous certifications: MTCNA, MTCRE, Ubiquiti UEWA or UBRSS, FTTH Specialist, CWNA or equivalent.
