The Successful Incumbent will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty. He / She will be responsible for the following key performance areas, with different emphasis in each area depending on the level of appointment. Facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Mathematics Education Conduct research and publish in the field of Mathematics Education Construct a coherent research agenda consistent with the broad research goals of Mathematics Education and within the Faculty Promote and support research activities in the School of Science and Mathematics Education including applications for funded research, and cooperate with the Science Learning Centre for Africa in research initiatives Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision Provide academic leadership Curriculum development and assessment Participate in community engagement and outreach activities of the SSME Administration and serving on institutional committees Scholarship of engagement for societal impact Serve on committees devoted to the development of SSME and faculty objectives Engage in national and international networks Added Advantages Undergraduate mathematics qualification at least at the second-year level would be advantageous Minimum Requirements – Senior Lecturer A PhD in Mathematics Education or Mathematics or Curriculum studies with Mathematics specialisation Undergraduate mathematics equivalent to NQF level 7 Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels A good research and publications record (comprising relevant peer‑reviewed and/or accredited journal articles, books or book chapters in reputable publications) A record of successful postgraduate supervision Experience in curriculum development and transformation The integration of community engagement with learning and teaching, and research Minimum Requirements – Lecturer A Master’s degree in Mathematics or Curriculum Studies with a Mathematics specialisation Undergraduate mathematics equivalent to NQF level 7 Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels A good research and publications record (comprising relevant peer‑reviewed and/or accredited journal articles, books or book chapters in reputable publications) Experience in curriculum development and transformation The integration of community engagement with learning, teaching, and research Competencies Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English Presentation and facilitation skills Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment Student‑centered approach Planning and organizing skills Computer literacy and e‑learning skills Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement as well as professional leadership In line with the University’s commitment to diversifying its workforce, preference will be given to suitably qualified applicants in line with our Employment Equity Targets.
