SPEC Africa Holdings is looking for an experienced Accountant to join our Finance Department based in Midrand . The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the completeness, accuracy and efficiency of the company’s accounting records. This includes maintaining the bookkeeping function up to trial balance, preparing reconciliations, assisting with statutory submissions, supporting management reporting and ensuring that all financial information is properly recorded and supported. The ideal candidate must have strong accounting knowledge, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately under pressure. BuildSmart experience and/or experience in the construction industry will be preferred. Key Responsibilities Maintain complete, accurate and up-to-date accounting records. Process and review accounting transactions accurately and timeously. Maintain the bookkeeping function up to trial balance. Process cashbook transactions, journals and general ledger entries. Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations. Prepare bank, petty cash and statutory reconciliations. Assist with monthly management accounts and reports. Assist with Value Added Tax and other statutory calculations and submissions. Ensure proper filing and recordkeeping of financial documents. Ensure that all accounting entries are correctly allocated to the relevant accounts, departments, cost centres and projects. Support project‑related accounting and cost allocations where applicable. Assist with supplier, subcontractor and project cost reconciliations where required. Identify and elevate accounting discrepancies, financial risks or internal control weaknesses. Assist with audit preparation and respond to audit queries where required. Support compliance with company accounting policies, procedures and the Quality Management System. Supervise and support bookkeeping staff where applicable. Perform any other finance‑related duties as required by the Financial Manager. Qualifications Tertiary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field. Minimum of five years’ experience in a similar accounting position. Strong accounting and reconciliation experience. Good knowledge of accounting systems. Good knowledge of statutory requirements and financial reporting. Strong computer literacy, especially Microsoft Excel. Experience in preparing reconciliations, trial balances and management reports. Experience working in a structured finance department. Ability to communicate in at least two official South African languages. Required Skills and Competencies Strong accounting knowledge. Strong reconciliation skills.
