Job description: Data Model Design and Development: Design logical and physical data models in line with the firms modelling standards, including Kimball star schema principles and medallion architecture Create and maintain enterprise-wide canonical models and reusable data artefacts to support consistency across projects Optimise data models for performance, scalability, and ease of use by BI, analytics, and reporting tools Standards and Governance Alignment: Ensure data models adhere to agreed naming conventions, metadata standards, and governance frameworks Collaborate with data governance, architecture, and engineering teams to ensure models align with business rules, data quality standards, and security classifications Maintain a centralised model repository and ensure version control of all modelling artefacts Documentation Maintenance: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data models, including data dictionaries, ERDs, and metadata Regularly update models to meet evolving business needs and provide training to legal and business stakeholders on data model functionality Business Requirements Translation: Engage with business analysts, data stewards, and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into fit-for-purpose data models Conduct workshops to validate model designs with business users and technical teams Analytical and Problem Solving: Advanced skills in assessing complex data requirements, identifying potential conflicts in data usage, and ensuring data security in model design Continuous Improvement: Evaluate and recommend modelling tools, techniques, and patterns that enhance the usability, performance, and maintainability of data assets Actively contribute to the firms data architecture and analytics roadmap Project and Change Management: Proficient in project management tools (e.g., JIRA) for managing data modelling tasks and facilitating communication across IT, legal, and compliance teams Data Quality and Integrity: Work closely with data quality teams to ensure data models support accurate, complete, and consistent data Perform impact analysis for changes to existing models and communicate implications to stakeholders Technical Collaboration: Partner with data engineers to ensure data pipelines are designed to populate models accurately and efficiently Provide technical guidance to analytics developers and report writers on optimal model usage Ability to design data models compatible with BI tools (e.g., Power BI) for effective reporting, analytics, and operational insights Required qualification: 4-year Degree / NQF level 7 Years of experience: Up to 6 years
