Senior Roads Contract Engineer – Cape Town (Ref CT0123) JG Afrika is seeking to appoint a Senior Roads Contract Engineer with extensive experience in the upgrading, improvement, rehabilitation, and periodic maintenance of roads for SANRAL, provincial, and municipal authorities. The successful candidate will be required to perform in the dual role of Project Leader and Contract Engineer, taking full technical and contractual responsibility for large, complex road infrastructure projects from inception through construction and close‑out. Duties and Responsibilities: Acting as Project Leader on major road infrastructure projects, assuming overall responsibility for project delivery Acting as Contract Engineer / Engineer’s Representative in accordance with applicable contract forms (FIDIC, GCC, etc.) Managing the planning, design, documentation, procurement, construction, and close‑out of road upgrade, rehabilitation and maintenance projects Leading and coordinating multidisciplinary design and construction supervision teams Managing contracts, including variations, claims, extensions of time, dispute avoidance and resolution Overseeing and participating in road and stormwater design, including associated infrastructure Providing site supervision and construction monitoring, ensuring compliance with specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and programme Engaging with clients, authorities, contractors, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle Ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, and professional standards Preparing and reviewing technical reports, contractual correspondence, and progress documentation Mentoring and supporting junior engineers and technical staff Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (NQF 8 or higher) Professional registration with ECSA (PrEng) – mandatory PrCPM registration will be advantageous Experience: Minimum of 15 years’ post‑professional registration experience Proven experience as both Project Leader and Contract Engineer on large road infrastructure projects Demonstrated experience in: Road upgrades, improvements, rehabilitation, and periodic maintenance SANRAL, provincial and municipal road projects Design, construction supervision, and contract administration Applicants must provide project details clearly indicating their role as Project Leader and Contract Engineer Skills: Project management of road upgrade, improvement, rehabilitation and maintenance projects Contract administration and claims management Procurement and tender processes Site supervision and construction management Proven ability to lead and manage large, multidisciplinary project teams Strong professional judgement in contractual and technical decision‑making High level of technical credibility and independence Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills Sound problem‑solving ability in complex and high‑pressure construction environments Strong planning, organisational, and time‑management skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Commitment to quality, ethics, compliance, and professional standards Notes: Please Send your CV to Jacqui Sonderegger – and use the reference CT0123 in the subject line of your email.
