Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Toolmaker. The position available will be based at the Thermopac Plant in Elsies River, Cape Town, reporting to the Tooling Supervisor. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Includes but not limited to) Set up and operate conventional machines: lathe, DRO milling machines, drill press etc. Fit and assemble parts to make, repair or modify tools, using machine tools and hand tools. Machining tooling parts to specified sizes as per drawing and mould layouts. Manufacture moulds: assembling, polishing, and repairing tools. Machining and making of mould structures, cutting structures, frames and plugs etc. for deep draws, and stackers. Drilling of cold blocks and the drilling of vacuum holes. Conduct preventative maintenance such as greasing and lubricant checks. Using measuring instruments, dial clock verniers, micrometers to measure tools. Make tools according to specifications. Fault finding and effective problem solving performed on moulds that must be serviced. Ability to safely operate Toolroom-related equipment i.e., lathe, DRO milling machines, drill press, circular saw etc. Work a rotational shift system. Maintenance and assembly of moulds. Adhere to all safety instructions while servicing and re-assembling moulds. Execute all work in a safe manner. To always wear the required PPE. Carry out good housekeeping. Always adhere to safety regulations. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Matric certificate or equivalent. Trade tested tool maker. Previous tool maker experience essential (minimum of 4 years post trade test). Experience in usage and operating toolroom equipment and machinery such as lathes, turret mills. PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES, BEHAVIOUR AND ATTITUDES Must have good communication and interpersonal skills. Must have good attention to detail. Must be detailed oriented and result focused. Coaching skills.
