A large consulting company with offices internationally and across South Africa is looking for a Senior Rock Engineer to join their growing team in Johannesburg. Education and Qualifications Degree in Rock Mechanics, Engineering, Mining Engineering, Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering MSc advantageous Registered as Professional Engineer 15+ years’ experience either as a consultant or working for a mining company in rock engineering Open pit mine and/or underground investigation and/or design experience a must Understanding of African clients in the mining industry Responsibilities Working predominately on projects concerned with rock mechanics, including support and mine design. Open pit mine investigation and design. Collation and analysis of geotechnical data. Geotechnical report writing. Provide technical expertise on mining projects concerned with soft and hard rock engineering, such as strata control and mine design. Manage consultancy project within open pit and underground rock engineering. Provide technical and project management expertise in research, instrumentation, stress measurement, monitoring, numerical modelling, risk management, underground safety audits, design methods, training and technology transfer. Develop new business and build upon existing and prospective client relations within the Business Unit. Develop techniques and methods for solving rock engineering problems within the mines, often conducting site visits to resolve these issues. Ensure compliance with HSSE procedures and protocols. Manage drilling contractors. Provide on‑site supervisory role for geotechnical investigation projects for open pit mines. Continually develop key skills in Project Management.
