Key Responsibilities: Legal & Statutory Responsibilities Accept legal appointment as Mine Manager in terms of MHSA Section 3.1. Ensure full compliance with: Mine Health and Safety Act Minerals Act Environmental legislation Labour legislation DMR regulations and directives Ensure legal appointments are in place and maintained. Lead DMR inspections, audits, and investigations. Ensure implementation of COPs (Codes of Practice) and SOPs. Safety Management Drive a zero-harm safety culture across the operation. Ensure implementation of safety systems and standards. Monitor: LTIFR Fatality prevention controls PTOs Inspections Risk assessments Incident investigations Ensure all departments comply with safety requirements. Chair safety meetings and management review meetings. Ensure emergency preparedness and mine rescue readiness. Operational Management Oversee all mining operations including: Drilling & blasting Loading & hauling Crushing & screening Production scheduling Pit development Waste management Ensure achievement of: Production targets Ore quality targets Cost targets Productivity targets Optimize fleet utilization and operational efficiencies. Monitor contractor performance and compliance. Engineering & Asset Management Ensure engineering legal compliance. Monitor: Fleet availability Equipment reliability Breakdown trends Preventative maintenance compliance Ensure effective engineering planning and maintenance execution. Approve major repairs and capital projects. Financial & Cost Control Prepare and manage operational budgets. Control mining production costs. Monitor: Cost per ton Fuel consumption Contractor costs Labour costs Maintenance expenditure Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety. People Management Lead and manage all mine departments. Ensure proper manpower planning and labour productivity. Manage: Discipline Performance management Training and development Succession planning Build a high-performance operational culture. Environmental Management Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and EMP requirements. Monitor: Dust suppression Waste management Water management Rehabilitation activities Ensure environmental incidents are reported and controlled. Reporting & Administration Submit daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports. Report mine performance to executive management. Ensure accurate operational statistics and legal documentation.
