Child & Youth Care Worker – Yabonga Children’s Project Location: Khayelitsha, Cape Town Deadline: 19 June 2026 Type: Full time Salary: TBC Job Description Yabonga seeks to appoint a qualified Child and Youth Care Worker. This person will be responsible for assisting in our Khayelitsha, Cape Town area. Responsibilities Attend all cases related to child neglect and provide necessary support to children and their families. Develop professional relationships with young people and their families to support and empower them to meet identified developmental needs and other needs. Makes appropriate referrals in consultation with team leaders e.g. to clinics, state departments, church leaders, schools, police, etc. Participates with the team leaders and/or co-CYCWs in making developmental assessments of the young person and the family. This involves: Identifying strengths and needs; Assessing risk factors; Performs and teaches basic caring skills to children and their families. Facilitates with the family, succession planning and foster care (memory boxes, grief work, wills, etc.) Ensures that routine and structure are in place in homes/families (including a roster for domestic chores, age-appropriate activities). Reports incidents of abuse and child protection issues to the relevant stakeholders using the reportable incidents forms and referral forms. Supports application for and receipt of social service grants due to the family and appropriate budgeting and accounting of grants received. Promotes the rights of young people and advocate for those rights to be respected by all who work with young people. Respects the different religious, linguistic and cultural heritage of all young people and their families. Run awareness’s on child protection at the clinics. Undertakes regular home visits. Ensures that all children who by law are required to attend school or an educational facility. Qualifications and Requirements Child and Youth Care worker qualification. Comfortable working in and around the Khayelitsha. Ability to network. Well presented, punctual and strong commitment. Experience with children and understanding of Children’s Act 38 of 2005.
