Director, Research Institute – DUT 2026 The Durban University of Technology (DUT) is seeking a Director for its Institute of System Science on a five‑year contract. This senior academic role provides strategic and operational leadership, overseeing research portfolios, funding pipelines, partnerships and staff development. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Institute of System Science. Define and maintain the institute’s research agenda aligned with DUT priorities. Oversee a high‑quality research portfolio, ensuring quality assurance and risk control. Build and manage a sustainable funding pipeline and partnership strategy. Lead and develop institute staff and postgraduate researchers. Manage budgets, infrastructure planning and administrative systems. Drive publications, innovation outputs and measurable societal impact. Ensure ethical, compliant research practice and audit readiness. Requirements Doctoral degree (PhD) in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field. Appointment at Full Professor level or demonstrable eligibility for that level according to DUT criteria. Minimum 10 years post‑PhD academic/research experience with a strong record of peer‑reviewed outputs. Proven research leadership, including supervision of postgraduate research. Preferred: NRF rating or equivalent research standing, international research leadership, experience in institute or centre governance, and experience managing multi‑partner funded programmes.
