Plant Metallurgist - Mining - Northern Cape About the job Plant Metallurgist - Mining - Northern Cape Our mining client in the Northern Cape is looking for a Plant Metallurgist who will be responsible for monitoring and improving metallurgical processes within the plant to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and safe production. This role will contribute to production optimization, continuous improvement initiatives, and research and development, while ensuring compliance with SHERQ standards and legal regulations. Key Responsibilities: Evaluate and monitor production process performance and identify areas for optimization. Conduct process simulations and test work to support plant improvements and modifications. Lead and contribute to Research and Development (R&D) projects to enhance processing efficiency. Drive and participate in continuous improvement projects, focused on safety, efficiency, and productivity. Ensure adherence to SHERQ standards and contribute to a culture of safety, health, environment, risk, and quality compliance. Maintain a high level of work ethics and foster a team-oriented work environment. Qualifications and Experience: National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Metallurgy (required). BTech Degree / Bachelor's Degree (NQF Level 7) in Metallurgy (advantageous). Minimum 5 years operational experience in Mineral Processing. Minimum 1 year in a supervisory, team leader, or project leadership role (advantageous). Minimum 2 years experience with Gravity Separation Technology (advantageous). Valid Drivers' License. Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of process theory including: Crushing, screening, conveying, stacking, and reclaiming. Gravity separation (jigging), cyclones, thickeners, tailings disposal. Sampling, dust suppression, on-line analyzers. Interpretation of process flow and instrumentation diagrams related to: Bruce Primary & Secondary Crushing. Overland Conveyor & ROM Stacking. On-Grade and Off-Grade Wash and Screening. Beneficiation and High-Pressure Roller Crushing. Product Conveying, Water & Slime Handling, and Automated Control Systems. Maintenance Management Systems. Diagnostic & Analytical Skills: Problem Solving. Trend Analysis & Report Writing. MS Office (Advanced). Risk Assessments and Permit to Work systems. Legal & Compliance Knowledge: Mine Health and Safety Act. SAQA Regulations. Company COPs and SHERQ procedures. First Aid Certification (advantageous).
