Reference number: PHC-CEN-FSA-001 Purpose of the position The Junior Accountant: Project Accounting is responsible for the accurate processing and maintenance of project financial data on the financial system. The role supports the full project life cycle by ensuring all project transactions, budgets, and documentation are complete, compliant and aligned to internal and audit requirements. The accountant acts as an interface and liaison between project teams and the broader organization. Qualifications / Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field (NQF level 7). Minimum 1-2 years experience. Diploma in Accounting or Financial Management (NQF level 6). Minimum 2-4 years experience in a relevant field. Financial, project accounting or similar experience. Experience in computerised financial system. Proficient in MS Office and advanced use of Excel. Experience in project-specific accounting and analysis will be advantageous. Required outputs and responsibilities Review supporting documentation for project setup and budget update requests, and process these on the financial system, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal policy and audit requirements. QA and process project invoice, resource assignment and update of project information requests on the financial system in line with requirements. Engage with project teams to resolve discrepancies, errors, or missing information prior to processing any requests on the financial system. Track and monitor various project components such as steering committee reports, old invoice reports and project forecasting. Prepare and distribute standard project reports. Support and action project close-out activities for all projects in the organisation. Assist with standard monthly period closure processes. Liaise with project teams and internal departments (e.g. Finance, Debtors, Procurement) to resolve queries and escalate issues where required. Assist with documenting, maintaining, and improving project accounting processes to support standardisation, audit readiness and continuous improvement (including automation initiatives alongside the IT department).
