Operational Finance Ownership - Core Focus Take full operational ownership of the finance function from source documents through to trial balance Ensure daily, weekly and monthly processing of all financial transactions is accurate, complete and on time Manage and review: Accounts payable and supplier reconciliations Accounts receivable and debtor management Bank and cashbook processing and reconciliations General ledger postings and journal entries Control month end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met without exception Maintain strict oversight of balance sheet accounts and reconciliations Monitor and actively manage cash flow, identifying risks and shortfalls early Ensure finance operations run independently and reliably without constant oversight Financial Controls, Compliance & Governance Implement, maintain and enforce robust internal financial controls Ensure compliance with: VAT, PAYE, UIF and statutory submissions SARS and regulatory requirements including VAT return submissions Company policies and governance standards Prepare, manage and maintain audit‑ready financial records Liaise with auditors, accountants and external service providers Proactively identify operational finance risks and implement corrective actions Team Management & Operational Leadership Lead and manage the finance team on a hands‑on, day‑to‑day basis Assign tasks, set operational priorities and manage workloads Review team output in detail for accuracy, compliance and consistency Provide coaching, guidance and performance management to ensure strong execution Build clear procedures, checklists and routines to ensure operational stability Act as the operational escalation point for all finance‑related matters Management Reporting & Strategic Support Prepare monthly management accounts with supporting schedules Deliver clear, practical financial reports with meaningful variance analysis Provide commentary that translates operational numbers into business insight Support budgeting, forecasting and cost control initiatives Assist management with pricing, profitability and cash flow decisions Provide ad‑hoc financial analysis to support strategic planning and decision making Process Improvement & Systems Continuously assess finance processes to improve efficiency and accuracy Drive standardisation, automation and best practice within finance operations Support system implementations, upgrades and data integrity initiatives Ensure financial systems are used correctly and consistently by the team Key Performance Areas (KPAs) Accuracy and reliability of day‑to‑day financial processing Timely and disciplined month‑end close Strength of internal controls and audit outcomes Cash flow visibility and control Quality and usefulness of management reporting Finance team effectiveness, consistency and accountability Ideal Candidate Profile - Operational Deeply hands‑on and operationally strong Comfortable working in the detail while understanding the bigger picture Highly organised, disciplined and process driven Confident managing people, priorities and deadlines Commercially aware with the ability to explain numbers clearly Trusted custodian of company finances Qualification Bcom Accounting/Finance Experience 7+ years senior bookkeeping experience Critical Practical Knowledge (Essential) General ledger management Cash flow control and forecasting Balance sheet integrity Internal financial controls Advanced working knowledge of Excel Experience using accounting / ERP systems Sound knowledge of South African tax and staQualification Bcom Accounting/Finance #J-18808-Ljbffr
