Business Development Representative (BDR) Role Overview The Business Development Representative (BDR) drives new business opportunities across plumbing, electrical, and large‑scale industrial or engineered construction projects. The role focuses on outbound prospecting, relationship development, and early‑stage opportunity qualification with municipalities, utilities, general contractors, engineers, developers, and commercial or industrial clients. The BDR builds the front end of the pipeline by identifying opportunities early, developing trust with technical buyers, and positioning the company for inclusion in bids, negotiated work, and long‑term programs. Key Responsibilities Identify and pursue new business opportunities in plumbing, electrical, industrial, and engineered construction markets. Prospect and build relationships with municipalities, utilities, general contractors, engineers, developers, and industrial owners. Monitor bid boards, capital improvement plans (CIPs), and upcoming projects to identify early opportunities. Conduct outbound outreach via phone, email, virtual meetings, and digital channels. Qualification & Opportunity Development Qualify opportunities based on project scope, size, timeline, funding, and decision‑makers. Gather project intelligence including specifications, engineering firms, GC involvement, and procurement strategy. Position the company early with engineers and owners to influence scope, approach, and constructability. Coordinate handoff of qualified opportunities to estimating and project teams. Relationship Management Build and maintain long‑term relationships with key industry stakeholders including engineers, inspectors, utilities, and GCs. Maintain consistent touchpoints with existing and prospective clients. Represent the company professionally in virtual pre‑bid meetings, interviews, and presentations. Internal Coordination & Reporting Maintain accurate CRM records, including contacts, opportunities, and activity tracking. Provide regular pipeline updates, forecasts, and market feedback to leadership. Collaborate with estimating, operations, and leadership to ensure alignment on pursuits and priorities. Qualifications Experience in plumbing, electrical, industrial construction, or engineered project environments. Strong understanding of construction project lifecycles, bidding processes, and stakeholder dynamics. Comfortable engaging with technical decision‑makers such as engineers, inspectors, project managers, and owners. Proven ability to prospect, build relationships, and develop early‑stage opportunities. Strong communication, organization, and follow‑up skills. Self‑directed and comfortable operating in a remote or hybrid environment. Success in This Role Looks Like A healthy, well‑qualified pipeline of upcoming projects.
