Purpose We seek to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Afrikaans (Language/Linguistics) in the Faculty of Humanities. The person should specialise in teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The incumbent will be expected to undertake research and develop teaching programmes and capacity in their discipline within the Faculty of Humanities at Sol Plaatje University. Minimum Requirements Lecturer A master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Afrikaans (Language/Linguistics), or cognate discipline. At least 2 years of relevant lecturing experience at a Higher Education institution. Evidence of Postgraduate supervision. Evidence of registration for a doctorate/PhD. Demonstrate evidence in the form of publications in DHET-accredited journals, etc.; Evidence of research activity. Relevant teaching experience in Afrikaans (Language/Linguistics) modules at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. Senior Lecturer PhD/Doctorate (NQF level 10) in Afrikaans (Language / Linguistics). At least five (5) years’ relevant teaching experience in a Higher Education institution. Evidence of managing a research program and some publications in accredited journal/s. Evidence of research activity. Postgraduate research supervision on at least a master’s and/or PhD level. Evidence of successful curriculum, programme development, and academic management. Evidence of active participation in professional, industry, and/or community activities. Knowledge and experience of implementing quality assurance requirements. Excellent computer skills. Recommendation Lecturer A PhD (NQF level 10) in Afrikaans (Language/Linguistics). Experience in online/blended teaching. Experience in programme and curriculum development/review. Good interpersonal skills, communication and computer skills, good organisational and planning skills. Demonstrate a willingness to develop teaching capacity; Highlight evidence of collaboration within the Afrikaans Language Practice fraternity; Involved in discipline or departmental official activities and processes. Active academic participation in workshops/forums in higher education. Community engagement activities. Senior Lecturer Hold an NRF rating OR demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating within the next five 5 years. Duties and responsibilities Teaching and Learning Teach both postgraduate and undergraduate modules. Compile work schemes in collaboration with colleagues. Professional preparation of teaching media and notes to supplement or substitute prescribed textbooks. Research and selection of suitable reference material to supplement textbooks. The facilitation of an effective teaching situation in which the learning experience can take place successfully. The upgrading of course content/development of new courses and/or modules to keep up with the latest requirements of the discipline. Student and peer evaluations of teaching performance. External examination/moderation and invitations to teach externally. Act as a study leader. Research Act as supervisor for Honours, and where relevant, Postgraduate students. Research and utilize new and emerging approaches and technology in teaching. Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops. Present research study papers at conferences. Conduct appropriate research Conduct appropriate research. Publish research in reputable journals. Keep abreast of professional literatures. Community Engagement Contribute to community engagement initiatives. Integrate community engagement interventions into the curriculum. Participate in departmental committees. Register as a member of professional bodies to keep abreast of all developments (where appropriate). Curriculum development and accreditation Contribute to curriculum development. Participate in curriculum review to ensure alignment with sector/discipline norms and requirements. Student Academic Development – identifies, reports, and supports students at risk on time. Develop intervention strategies. Administration Keep attendance registers. Record student results. Assist with the registration of students. Quality Assurance Contribute to Quality Assurance through committee meetings and the submission of relevant documents. Personal/Professional Development Keep abreast of developments within one's own field of study and discipline, and its implications for teaching and learning. Keep abreast of developments in professional conduct at SPU. Register as a member of professional bodies to keep abreast of all developments (where appropriate). Engage in current professional development activities. Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops. Present research study papers at conferences. Develop relevant reports as and when required.
