Position Overview The Property Accountant will work closely with our clients to support property accounting across all areas, including subledger and general ledger activities. The role involves managing general ledger transactions, invoicing tenants, credit control, coding supplier invoices, processing service charges, bank reconciliations, VAT reporting, period close activities, onboarding new portfolios, and lease administration. Work is performed with a hybrid model, allowing up to 3 days per week working from home. The position supports the UK region and requires working UK hours (08:30-17:00 UK time) aligned with Daylight Savings. Responsibilities Administer all levels of property accounting and special projects as needed by management. Assist with creating transactions and invoicing tenants, posting receipts for tenant payments. Perform credit control activities including aged debt reporting, sending arrears letters and liaising with tenants regarding queries. Support coding of supplier invoices and produce supplier statements. Run the full end‑to‑end process with service charges, including raising accounts, recovering expenditure, billing voids, and year‑end reconciliations. Conduct bank reconciliations. Assist with VAT reporting. Execute month‑end and year‑end activities, including closing periods, running GL reports such as the trial balance, and reconciling balance sheet accounts. Onboard new portfolios – entering static lease data and financial opening balances. Administer lease management, reconciling existing portfolio data against client leases and managing the lease lifecycle. Key Requirements Must be able to work during UK hours and South African public holidays (you will receive UK bank holidays instead of SA bank holidays). 2‑4 years of experience as a property accountant with a commercial or residential management company. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Ability to communicate effectively with clients, peers, and management through written and/or verbal communication. Ability to work independently. Ability to work under deadlines. Good organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities. High degree of dependability, motivation and flexibility. Nice to Have Experience using MRI Software applications. Understanding of property and lease management processes and principles. Comfortable with system administration tasks (non‑technical). Knowledge of turnover rent or IFRS16. Previous experience with client‑facing roles.
