The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical design of mineral processing equipment and modular plant layouts, working within a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver projects from concept through to manufacturing and commissioning.Key Responsibilities Design mineral processing equipment and plant components using 3D CAD software Develop detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials Perform engineering calculations including structural, mechanical, and material selection Collaborate with process engineers to translate process requirements into mechanical designs Support manufacturing teams with technical queries during fabrication Conduct design reviews and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards Contribute to the refinement of modular plant design methodologies to reduce costs and project timelines Liaise with suppliers regarding bought-out components and specifications Assist with site support during construction and commissioning when required Maintain accurate project documentation and revision control Qualifications & Experience B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) Minimum 35 years of experience in mechanical design within heavy industry, mining equipment, or mineral processing Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) Strong understanding of steel fabrication, structural design, and manufacturing processes Experience with design codes and standards (SANS, ASME, ISO, etc.) Registration with ECSA as a Candidate or Professional Engineer is advantageous Skills & Attributes Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines Effective communicator who can work across departments from design office to shop floor Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Willingness to travel to site when required
