An exciting opportunity exists with our global mining client for an experienced Magazine Master based in Limpopo . The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the legal receipt, storage, issuance, and destruction of explosives and accessories in an underground magazine. The primary goal is to ensure 100% compliance with South African statutory requirements while maintaining an uninterrupted supply of blasting materials for production. Minimum Requirements Must possess a valid Blasting Certificate or a Competent Person A (Explosives) Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in an underground mining environment, specifically handling explosives. Thorough understanding of Chapter 4 of the MHSA Regulations regarding explosives. Must have a clean criminal record (required for SAPS clearance to handle explosives). Must be able to obtain a Certificate of Fitness (Red Ticket) for underground work. Key Responsibilities Legal Compliance: Maintain the underground magazine in strict accordance with the Explosives Act (Act 26 of 1956) and the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996). Inventory Management: Accurately record the receipt and issue of all explosives, detonators, and blasting accessories. Perform daily stock reconciliations. Security & Access Control: Ensure the magazine remains locked and secure at all times. Only authorized, "competent" persons as per the MHSA are permitted to receive explosives. Safety Inspections: Conduct daily inspections of the magazine area to check for dampness, fire hazards, ventilation, and structural integrity. Returns Management: Process "returns" of unused explosives from the end of shifts, ensuring they are properly documented and re-stowed. Reporting: Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly consumption reports for management and the SAPS (South African Police Service) Explosives Inspectorate when required. Housekeeping: Ensure the "no-smoking" and "no-fire" zones are strictly enforced and that the magazine is free of debris and empty packaging. Technical Competencies Stock Control: Ability to use digital or manual ledgers (e.g., SAP or physical logbooks) for tracking batch numbers and expiry dates. Risk Assessment: Identifying hazards related to static electricity, stray currents, and sympathetic detonation. Communication: Proficiency in English (and ideally a local language like isiZulu or Sesotho) to communicate with blasting crews. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) from local communities surrounding the mine.
