- Permanent JHB FMCG Gauteng, Johannesburg R35k - R45k Retail Operations Manager – Multi-Site FMCG Retail This is not a desk job. We are looking for a hands‑on retail operator who knows what a strong store looks like the moment they walk through the door. Someone who notices empty shelves, poor merchandising, weak controls, lack of urgency, and operational gaps before anyone else does. We are a well‑established, independently owned retail group with multiple stores across Gauteng. As the business continues to grow, we are creating a senior leadership role focused on driving operational excellence, accountability, profitability, and consistency across the group. The Role Reporting directly to group ownership, the Retail Operations Manager will oversee day‑to‑day operational performance across all stores. You will act as the link between store management teams and ownership, ensuring standards are maintained, teams are accountable, and stores operate efficiently and profitably. This is a highly visible, floor‑based role requiring daily store visits and active involvement in operations. Key Responsibilities Conduct daily store visits and structured floor walks Assess store presentation, merchandising, cleanliness, compliance, and operational standards Hold Store Managers, Supervisors, Receiving Managers, and department heads accountable to KPIs and operational expectations Drive profitability through improved controls, reduced wastage, and shrinkage management Identify operational inefficiencies and implement better systems and processes Monitor staffing, productivity, and operational performance across storesCompile detailed operational reports and action plans for ownership Ensure consistency, discipline, and high standards across the group What We’re Looking For Minimum 5 years’ experience in retail management At least 2 years overseeing multiple stores, sites, or large departments Strong FMCG / grocery retail background — not neg Excellent understanding of store operations, floor standards, and profitability Strong leadership and accountability management skills Hands‑on, disciplined, detail‑oriented approach Able to identify problems quickly and implement practical solutions Strong reporting, analytical, and problem‑solving ability Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle essential Relevant tertiary qualification advantageous, but proven experience is more important What We Offer Market‑related salary Petrol / travel allowance Senior leadership role with autonomy and influence Direct access to ownership and decision‑making Stable, growing retail group with long‑term plans We are looking for an operator — not someone who manages from behind a desk.
